Ultrashape

Body contouring
Achieving the shape you want can be difficult for many people despite adequate exercise and diet. The problem is that diet and exercise are non selective in targeting fat reduction and there is no easy way to target those “problem areas” such as your abdomen or thighs. This can leave many people unhappy with their body shape.

As adults, we generally have a fixed number of fat cells distributed unevenly around the body. As we put “weight on”, fat (lipid) is stored in the fat cells (adipocytes) causing them to increase in size (not in number). As we lose weight, fat is emptied from the fat cells making them smaller (not fewer). We store fat in areas of the body relative to the number of fat cells in each area. Hence some people tend to store more fat over their hips or buttocks as they have relatively more fat cells in these areas.

The only way to permanently reduce the tendency to store fat in a particular area is to remove the fat cells from that area.

Until now, targeted contouring techniques included liposuction, mesotherapy and a variety of devices using massage, suction, radiofrequency waves or infrared waves.

It is estimated that over 1 million people undergo liposuction annually. This surgical procedure uses a tube and vacuum to suck localised deposits of fat and fat cells out of the body.

Disadvantages of liposuction include:
Mesotherapy “dissolves” fat by injecting a chemical into the unwanted fat deposit. The potential complications associated with this procedure include infection, discomfort, bruising and significant swelling.

Many of the devices using vacuum, rollers/massage and infrared don’t destroy fat cells. Instead they help to move fat out of the fat cells and redistribute fluid out of the problem area. These devices tend to result in a temporary benefit only. The fat cells often refill with fat and the fluid usually returns to the treated area. Maintenance treatments are often required.

UltraShape Body Contouring.
The UltraShape uses scientifically proven focussed ultrasound to safely and effectively remove unwanted fat. This procedure requires no anaesthetic, is non invasive and selectively destroys fat cells in the chosen body region. The surrounding tissue, including nerves, blood vessels and skin, remain unharmed.

During treatment, the fat cells are disrupted and the stored fat is released and broken down by the body’s natural enzymes before being transported through the blood and lymphatic systems to the liver. Fat entering the liver is treated the same as fat derived from our diet, and is removed from the liver via natural body processes.

What can I expect during treatment?
After the area is marked out, the patient lies down and the ultrasound transducer is gently passed over the area to be treated. The computer based tracking system ensures even results. You can resume your daily routine immediately after treatment.

The duration of treatment depends on the size of the area be treated.

Is the treatment painful?
This is a non surgical, non invasive, office procedure and does not require anaesthetic. Patients consistently report a painless and comfortable experience.

Is the UltraShape treatment permanent?
As this treatment permanently removes fat cells from the target area, any additional weight gain will be more evenly distributed around the body.

What areas can be treated?
Common treatment areas include the abdomen, thighs (“saddlebags”), back, flanks (“love handles”) and buttocks or the area beneath the buttocks (“banana roll”).

Can everyone be treated?
The treatment is designed for men and women who are average to overweight and who want to contour a problem area.

How many treatments are required?
Results can be seen in as few as ten days. The original studies showed an average reduction in two centimetres body circumference after a single treatment.  This will vary depending on the individual and the size of the area treated.

A course of three or four treatments is often required to obtain optimum results.  The number of treatments depends on the starting body shape and the desired outcome.

Are there any side effects?
The UltraShape procedure is an office based, “walk-in, walk-out” procedure without any expected side effects.

What should I do before treatment?
Nothing apart from removing any hair from the area to be treated.

What should I do after treatment?
There are no bandages, dressings or wounds to worry about. Simply return to your daily routine without interruption. We do encourage a healthy lifestyle including maintaining your ideal body weight, eating a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Is this treatment suitable for everyone?
This procedure may not be suitable for people who:
Is it Expensive?

Costs are also based on the size of the area being treated, and it is difficult to provide an accurate quote unless we actually see the area. Therefore, we suggest you book in for a free consultation with one of our consultants who can explain the procedure in more detail and provide you with a price for a treatment plan.
