West Coast 1000

The West Coast 1000 swim was launched in 2008 and was the first attempt at bringing the world record for number of participants in an open water race to Perth.

We have our eyes on the January 1998 record set by the community of Lorne Victoria set when 3071 swimmers completed the annual Pier to Pub swim.

This year our aim is to rally approximately 4000 swimmers, which would see us land our place in the Guinness Book of World Records. This year's swim will include a 1000 metre race, a 1600 metre race and a 500 metre 'splash for cash', so there is a challenge for every level of swimmer from the novice to the super experienced. Those quickest in the water are up for some great prizes.

World records aside, the West Coast 1000 will be raising funds for Telethon. The swim is simply about fun, fitness and celebrating the Perth way of life.

What to expect on the day

The day's activities will kick off at Cottesloe Beach with a participant briefing at approximately 7.45am. All swimmers will have been given a designated colour coded swim cap prior to the event which specifies the start time of their race. Competitors will then walk the short stroll to the start line at North Cottesloe beach. Swim groups will then depart the beach every 5 mins, each group will contain no more than 350 swimmers. All participants will be timed electronically so the world record and category winners can be verified.

Dermatique is a proud sponsor and will be donating $10 from every Skin Cancer Full Body Examination in December to Telethon.
